What years of building things taught me about service

People sometimes ask why a technology entrepreneur ends up spending so much time on community work. The honest answer is that the two were never really separate for me.
I have spent years building things in technology. It is work I love, and work that taught me something simple: you cannot talk your way past a problem, you have to actually solve it. That lesson does not leave you, whatever room you are in.
Over the years, that same instinct pulled me toward community work, first in Eastlands where I grew up, and later in Kileleshwa, where I have now lived for more than twenty years. Not as an outsider looking in, but as someone who walks these streets, uses these roads, and wants the next generation here to have a real shot.
This site is where I keep an honest, dated record of that work, built one step at a time.
